Trench Safety Stand Down

In recognition of National Safety Month and Trench Safety Awareness Week, the Kissick Construction team took time to pause, reflect, and recommit ourselves to one of the most important aspects of our work: protecting the people who make it possible.

This year’s annual Trench Safety Stand Down began with meaningful remarks from President Pete Browne and Director of Corporate Safety Chad LaVoi, who reinforced the importance of maintaining a strong safety culture and looking out for one another both on and off the jobsite.

The morning’s featured presentation, The Buried Truth Uncovered, featured Eric Giguere’s firsthand account of surviving a trench collapse that changed his life in an instant.

Eric’s story is a sobering reminder that shortcuts aren’t worth the risk. A missed step, an overlooked hazard, or a momentary lapse in judgment can have consequences that last a lifetime. As Eric puts it:

“One second of error is not worth it.”

As we have done annually for nearly a decade, we brought our teams together to discuss trench and excavation safety, share lessons learned, and reinforce the responsibility we all have to look out for one another on every jobsite.

In our industry, production matters. Schedules matter. Deadlines matter.

But no project is worth changing a life forever.
